Matt Luna

Matt Luna

Matt Luna is a social studies teacher and soccer coach at J Paul Truluck Creative Arts and Science Magnet School.  He is originally from Battle Creek, MI (Cereal City, USA).  Yes, that makes him a Yankee.  He has been happily married to the same wonderful woman for twenty-four years and has three amazingly smart children (one married and in MSU Medical School, one owns his own media company, Luna Media, and the third is the editor and chief for the Patriot newspaper).

Matt graduated from Olivet College, in Olivet, MI in 2004 with a 4.0 GPA and numerous honors.  He later received his Masters in Literacy, also with a 4.0, in 2018. He moved his family to Lake City in 2005 to accept a teaching position at LCHS and taught there for 13 years before moving to J Paul Truluck Creative Arts and Science Magnet.

As both a student and teacher of history he has been granted audiences with former Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush as well as our current President Donald Trump.  He was also invited to have dinner with former President Ford.  Additionally, he has studied anthropology and history in the United States, Mexico, Belize, Honduras, and Canada.

He is always looking for adventure.  In this quest for adventure he has biked cross-country, climbed one of the tallest mountains in North America, explored the ruins at Altun Ha and Teotihuacan, and played soccer in Mexico.

In his free time, he is a published author and amateur film maker. Matt plans on creating more films and to do more writing in the future; but for now, he is absolutely thrilled to be in Lake City, working with young scholars and touching lives.

Be a problem solver! One of my favorite quotes is: ““When you can’t change the direction of the wind—adjust your sails.”
