What is SGA?
The Student Government Association is the student-led voice of JPT. SGA members work collaboratively to shape school culture, communicate important information to students, plan school-wide events, and ensure that student perspectives are heard and valued in school decision-making. SGA is more than a club—it's a daily commitment to making JPT a better place for everyone.
How SGA Works
SGA meets daily during advisory class, which counts as course credit. The organization is composed of elected officers and grade-level representatives, ensuring that voices from all grades are represented in decision-making. Elections take place at the end of each school year, with students running for positions and participating in a democratic election process for the school year ahead.
Real Impact on School Culture
SGA has genuine influence on the climate and culture of JPT. Members have been instrumental in collaborating with Jostens Renaissance Identity Consultants to help reinvigorate the JPT magnet purpose and ensure that our school's core values—CONNECT, EXPLORE, and CREATE—are lived out daily.
What SGA Does
School-Wide Initiatives and Events: SGA is responsible for planning and executing major school events, including pep rallies, spirit weeks, and community-building activities that bring students together.
Student Communication: SGA ensures that important school news and announcements reach students through social media accounts and weekly announcement videos. If you've seen our fun announcement videos or followed our social media, you've experienced SGA's work in action.
Panther Perk Iced Coffee Shop: SGA maintains and operates Panther Perk, an on-campus iced coffee shop that serves students and staff. This student-run business teaches entrepreneurship while providing a gathering space for the school community.
Student Voice and Advocacy: SGA serves as the bridge between student body and administration, advocating for student needs and ensuring that the student perspective is considered in school decisions.
Who Can Join?
SGA elections are open to all JPT students interested in serving their school community and meet the requirements laid out in the JPT SGA Constitution. If you're passionate about school culture, enjoy working with others, and want to make a real difference at JPT, consider running for SGA office or as a grade-level representative.
