Yearbook Production

What is Yearbook?

The JPT yearbook is a student-led publication that serves as a visual and written record of our school year. More than just a collection of photos, the yearbook is a collaborative project where students develop professional skills in photography, design, journalism, marketing, and project management—all while creating a keepsake that celebrates our entire school community.

Participation Details

Yearbook is an invitation-only program that meets daily during advisory and earns students course credit. Students who participate in yearbook all four years of their high school career receive an honors completer cord for graduation, recognizing their sustained commitment to this meaningful work.

What You'll Learn

Yearbook students develop a diverse skill set that extends far beyond photography:

  • Photography and Technical Skills: Learn to operate manual settings on DSLR cameras and develop an eye for compelling imagery

  • Design and Layout: Master design programs like Yearbook Avenue to create visually engaging pages

  • Journalism and Writing: Interview students and staff, write compelling captions and stories, and develop journalistic voice

  • Marketing and Sales: Develop strategies to promote the yearbook and encourage school-wide investment in the publication

  • Organization and Indexing: Manage thousands of photos, organize content systematically, and ensure every student is properly indexed

  • Collaboration and Inclusivity: Learn to work effectively with peers, set aside personal differences, and ensure equitable representation of all students

Our Mission

The yearbook team is committed to a bold goal: feature every single student enrolled at JPT at least three times throughout the year. This requires dedication, intentional planning, and a genuine investment in representing our entire school community fairly and authentically.

Yearbook students understand that creating a yearbook people want to buy means being invested in school climate and culture. When students love coming to school and feel seen in the yearbook, sales increase—and those funds support the program's ability to invest in better equipment and resources.

Beyond the Book

Yearbook students don't just work during advisory. The program includes:

  • Attending after-school events and performances to capture candid moments

  • Hosting fundraising initiatives throughout the school year

  • Planning and executing a grand yearbook unveiling and distribution event at the end of the year

  • Continuously developing school culture through their work and presence
